CUHK highlights Uzbek freshman as it promotes information engineering program
The Chinese University of Hong Kong published the account of Dulatkhan, an Uzbek freshman in its information engineering program, alongside details of the degree's five specialization tracks and roughly 90% employment rate.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong released material on Aug. 7, 2026 profiling Dulatkhan, a freshman from Uzbekistan enrolled in its information engineering program, as part of an introduction to the degree.
According to the university, Dulatkhan cited Hong Kong’s safe environment, inclusive atmosphere, multicultural character as a city and natural scenery as reasons for choosing to study there, and pointed to CUHK’s college system and green campus. The curriculum lets students explore broadly before selecting a specialization, the university said, and his coursework has included building a rock-paper-scissors robot, working with Linux systems and learning several programming languages.
Outside class he has taken part in inter-college volleyball and judo and in hiking, joined the international students’ association and serves as external vice president of the Central Asian association, the release said. He has also attended career workshops, recruitment briefings and the university’s International Connection program, and plans to explore a specific research area, look for internships through CUHK’s careers portal and seek work in Hong Kong’s technology industry.
CUHK said its information engineering program, known as IERG, was the first of its kind established in Hong Kong, founded in 1989, and that the university ranks 37th in the world in the QS subject rankings for computer science and electrical engineering. Students choose among five specialization tracks — big data, communications, cyber security, network systems and information science — after core foundation courses in mathematics, signals, data structures and computer networks.
The program produces about 100 graduates a year with an employment rate of roughly 90%, and alumni have joined employers including Deloitte, PwC, HSBC, JPMorgan Chase, Huawei, IBM and Lenovo, according to the release. The university framed the case within a broader trend of Central Asian students widening their study-abroad options beyond Western countries.
