Anti-school-violence body names 56 students for ninth Model Leader Awards
The Society for the Verification of the Eradication of School Violence Headquarters and the World Federation of Peace Leaders announced 56 winners of the ninth Korea Model Leader Awards, to be presented Sept. 11 at the National Assembly.
The World School Violence Eradication Headquarters and the World Federation of Peace Leaders announced on Aug. 7, 2026 that 56 students have been selected for the ninth Korea Model Leader Awards, with the ceremony set for Sept. 11 in the large conference room of the National Assembly Members’ Office Building.
Three grand prizes go to Kim Chan-mi, an 11th grader at California Crosspoint High School; Oh Hye-won, a graduate of Myungduk Foreign Language High School; and Yoo Ju-won, a third-year student at Yanggok High School, according to the organizers. Winners were confirmed by the organizing committee following a nationwide open call and screening in which some 600 institutions and organizations took part.
The awards are divided into grand, gold, silver, bronze and encouragement prizes. Silver prizes went to seven elementary, three middle and 10 high school students, and gold prizes to 11 elementary, 15 middle and seven high school students. Gold, silver and bronze recipients receive a certificate and a plaque, while encouragement prize winners receive a certificate. Grand prize winners are awarded an iDREAM scholar scholarship, and the organizers said the iDREAM scholar designation, previously used only for grand prize recipients, is being extended to all winners this year.
The silver prize winners at elementary level are Kim Ha-eun, Park Woo-bin, Kim Ruth, Yoo Jae-won, Yoon Seo-jun, Yoon Won and Lee Tae-yoon, and at middle school level Hyun Byung-san, Lee Tae-ho and Ahn Jun.
Before the 2 p.m. ceremony, a Korea health and welfare policy forum will open at 1 p.m. on themes including improving public health, responding to a super-aged society, strengthening regional medical care and digital healthcare, chaired by Lee Chi-soo, standing adviser to the World Federation of Peace Leaders.
The event is hosted and organized by the World Media Association, the office of National Assembly member Seo Young-seok and the organizing committee for the Korea SVE Special Award and Model Leader Award, with support from bodies including MDM Group, Korea Asset Trust, Geo-Young Group, NFPO, the Korea Internet Newspaper Association and CSLGI. The federation traces its origins to the International Youth Research Institute, established on Jan. 11, 2007. The Model Leader Award was created to identify students who work to prevent school violence and practice good character and volunteer service, the organizers said.
