Geumcheon library to run 12-week philosophy course for adults from August
Geumcheon-gu's Geumnarae Library will hold a 12-session Saturday humanities course on philosophy and everyday life from Aug. 22 to Nov. 21, taught by a Chung-Ang University research professor.
Geumnarae Library, operated by the Geumcheon Cultural Foundation, will run its 2026 Wisdom School program under the title “A Philosophical Map for Meeting the Present Moment” from Aug. 22 to Nov. 21, 2026, according to a press release from the foundation.
The advanced humanities program for adults consists of 12 sessions held on Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the first-floor lecture room of the library in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul. Wisdom School is a humanities grant program hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and administered by the Korea Arts and Culture Education Service and the Korean Library Association, the foundation said.
Lectures will be given by Kim Bun-seon, a research professor at Chung-Ang University’s Institute of Philosophy, using texts including Jin Tae-won’s “Spinoza’s Ethics Class.” Topics span passion, youth, the environments that breed anxiety, the self within relationships, social suffering, the sources of joy and pain, care of the self, and the finitude of life.
The course combines lectures and discussion with everyday writing exercises, participatory activities and a concluding workshop. It is open to adult members of the Geumcheon-gu public libraries, and applications are accepted through the library system’s website. Seo Young-cheol, chief executive of the Geumcheon Cultural Foundation, offered remarks on the program.
