EU institutions invited citizens to shape education and youth policy through Future of Europe conference
In a January 2022 notice, the European Parliament, Council and Commission set out how citizens could submit ideas on education, culture, youth and sport through the Conference on the Future of Europe.
The European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission invited citizens to take part in the Conference on the Future of Europe, described in a notice dated Jan. 4, 2022 as the first transnational deliberation in which European challenges would be discussed together with citizens.
The three institutions committed to listen to the conference’s recommendations and to follow up on them, according to the notice. Contributions could be submitted through a multilingual digital platform and through national and European citizens’ panels, and submissions were to feed into discussions at the conference’s plenary.
Ideas gathered and reports from events were published on the platform, and education, culture, youth and sport were among the areas open for input, the notice said. The conference was expected to give guidance to the European institutions on the future of Europe by the spring of 2022.
